Another good short guide from the Stuart's. On Animal Footprints. A bargain.

I have a number of books on African Animals by this Husband and Wife team.
I have found them very Useful along side the WILDguides put out by Princeton University Press.
Th different books often the same annals from different viewpoints and help one build one's knowledge of these animals and there various habitats.
This book gives a good array of foot prints for a variety of animals .
Included are the heavy weights, the cloven hooves, the uncloven, paws, hands and feet and various others.
Photos are given of track marks with a diagram giving the details of shape and dimensions.
Some of this information is found in there other books but here it is well set out and you can quickly compare on set of foot prints with another.
For me it was well worth getting.

David D. Perlmutter is a professor and associate dean for graduate studies and research at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. A documentary photographer, he is the author or editor of six published or forthcoming books on war, politics, visual images, and public opinion.

John Maxwell Hamilton is Hopkins P. Breazeale LSU Foundation Professor and dean of the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University. He has been a journalist in the United States and abroad, worked on the staff of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and held a political appointment in the Agency for International Development during the Carter administration. He is the author or coauthor of five books.

My pre-teen likes this series. It is about pre-teens/teens hunting down jewel thieves, a mystery series. I would suggest you start with book one and follow the series if you wanted to read this book as the books can be hard to follow out of series. The books have no inappropriate words, violence or questionable context, as many books made for this age group does. Good series for a young girl who enjoys mystery books

Like the other outstanding book, "Buddha at The Apocalypse" by another author, it is not a book about Buddhism per se, but explains enough so as to be able to explain the cause and recommend a solution.

In contrast to what has all too often become a dialogue of the deaf between contemporary philosophers and theologians, Dr. Nielsen's interdisciplinary study provides a much-needed breath of fresh air. Nielsen interweaves themes from Michel Foucault, Fredrick Douglass, Franz Fanon, and John Duns Scotus to compose a veritable symphony of thought in which she develops perspectives on the issues of social construction, race, human freedom, natural law, and political justice that are equally provocative and compelling. Against overly deterministic readings of Foucault, Nielsen argues that agents exercise minimally metaphysical rational and volitional capacities to construct social identities allowing for meaningful resistance to oppressive power relationships. She explains how these resistance possibilities are exemplified in the lives of Douglass and Fanon, who also supply a moral basis for resistance that is lacking in Foucault. On Nielsen's account, this ethical dimension finds further corroboration in Scotus's notion of natural laws as cross-cultural, goal-oriented or "telic" human tendencies that are grounded in fundamental human goods. Nielsen's lucid and trenchant work is a model for philosophical theology that is historically informed, fruitfully synthetic, and highly relevant to current religious concerns.

Rethinking the Subject and Emancipatory Politics

Cynthia Nielsen has opened up a new line of inquiry in critical race studies that seeks to retrieve and renew thicker notions of agency from Duns Scotus, Franz Fanon, and Frederick Douglass and bring them into conversation with Michel Foucault's contemporary structural analysis of the subject. What is so unique in this work is the dialogical conjunction of transhistorical and transcultural voices regarding the questions of agency and subjectivity in emancipatory politics. Nielsen's reassessment of Foucault's "thin" account of agency provides a much needed critique that opens up new trajectories for rethinking subjectivity as never fully determined by the complex of power relations at work in a given field and is suggestive of a reinvigorated philosophical anthropology in postcolonial studies.

Prof. Nielsen has demonstrated her intellectual aptitude as an interdisciplinary scholar and as one who is not afraid to crisscross and transcend the boundaries of academic fields of study. In this worthy sequel to The Adventures of Captain Underpants, Pilkey maintains the original's satiric, self-referential formula as he revisits fourth-grade pranksters Harold and George, along with their school principal and principle nemesis, Mr. Krupp (aka superhero Captain Underpants). Trouble begins when Harold and George sabotage a science fair and are punished with "The Invention Convention Detention." Bored, the boys collaborate on a comic book about Talking Toilets. To their surprise, the Toilets come to life and Mr. Krupp's alter ego is called into service. Worst of all, even the brave Captain Underpants may be no match for the Toilets' leader, "nearly a ton of twisting steel and raging porcelain" known as the TT 2000. Pilkey illustrates in uncomplicated black-and-white line drawings with washes of gray, and offers "Flip-O-RamaTM," which requires turning a page back and forth for low-low-budget animation ("Don't forget to add your own sound-effects!"). He promises "extremely graphic violence" in scenes of "a giant toilet getting its shiny hiney kicked," ridicules teachers named "Ms. Ribble" and "Miss Anthrope" and decides that the story just wouldn't be complete without "upchucking." Bart Simpson could learn a few things from the subversively hilarious Harold and George, who consider inventing a robot urinal ("The Urinator"), then decide, "They'll never let us get away with that in a children's book. Grade 3-6This epic novel opens with an introductory cartoon strip that tells the top-secret truth about how two kids, George and Harold, used the 3-D Hypno-Ring to hypnotize their principal, who now becomes Captain Underpants whenever he hears fingers snaping. In this second adventure, the boys are banned from attending the annual Invention Convention and sent to detention to keep them out of trouble. This, of course, is impossible, so they sneak into the school that evening and tamper with all of the inventions to wreak havoc. They also make copies of their newest comic strip of vicious attack toilets and the daddy monster of them allTurbo Toilet 2000. The copy machine is an invention that duplicates into live matter all images it copies and the attack toilets come to life. The wild story actually comes to a logical conclusion, but it really doesnt matter. The fun is in the reading, which is full of puns, rhymes, and nonsense along with enough revenge and wish fulfillment for every downtrodden fun-seeking kid who never wanted to read a book. The cartoon drawings and the amazing flip-o-rama pages make this book so appealing that youngsters wont notice that their vocabulary is stretching. Hooray for Captain Underpants! My 7-year-old son and I read this together and laughed all the way through. Dav Pilkey uses his goofy imagination to write a very entertaining book for all ages. The best part is when the boys rearrange the letters on the sign to say something utterly silly (they do this in every book). George and Harold's ideas seem fairly innocent at first but cause dilemmas that even Captain Underpants can't resolve. Instead of panicking, George and Harold come up with zany ideas that actually work and save the day, plus more! This book will get any reluctant reader begging for the next Captain Underpants adventure. Keep 'em coming, Dav!

Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets

I read some of the other reviews and one stated that this was not a book for adults - true, it's not one I would have purchased solely for my own enjoyment - but enjoy it I did. My 7 year old son and I bought the book at the book fair and this is our second go round with it as a bed time book. We enjoy it as much or more each time we read it together. My 4 year old daughter can't wait to get her own Capt Underpants book. Thank you Mr. Pilkey for a book the whole family can read together - I am waiting impatiently for the next Capt Underpants adventure, I may even let the kids read it when I'm done...stay tuned................

I thought the book was excellent

I like the book because it was very funny and full of action. I think that it's a really good book for kids so they can laugh. The funniest part for me was when a toilet ate Captain Underpants and the kids made a new drawing so they could help Captain Underpants. But I really recommend this book to kids who like to laugh a lot.

Vintage Bledsoe

I have to say that I've loved everything I've ever read by Alex Bledsoe. That being said, I guess I'm not exactly an unbiased reviewer. I really enjoyed this short story because it sheds more light on the relationship between the a Reverend and Bronwyn Hyatt. It also gives us a better insight into Mandalay. I would seriously recommend you read "The Hum And The Shiver" and "Wisp Of A Thing" prior to reading "Shall We Gather," in that order. You won't regret getting to know the Tufa and Alex Bledsoe.

Not a great standalone story, but a nice addition for fans of the series

The story is quite brief for an item that has to be individually purchased; there's little introduction to characters or the setting for anyone who hasn't already read The Hum and the Shiver, or Wisp of a Thing. That said, the story answers one of the recurring questions of The Hum and the Shiver, and gives a little more of a chance to learn about a couple of the characters, particularly Mandalay, which I appreciated. I enjoyed reading it, and hope it eventually gets packaged with more short stories from the series or one of the novels.

Bring on more stories of the Tufa!

I started reading Alex Bledsoe's sword jockey series and enjoyed the characters and humor so much that I tried the Tufa books. These quickly became my favorites! The subtle foreshadowing, depth of character development, and entertaining story lines kept me enthralled.
