Good book but may end up upsetting so people, there is a lot out their waiting for you if you are compromised!

Very interesting, learned a great deal about various infectious deceases. Some of the parasites are really bad, don't travel to 3rd word countries our eat salads in any restaurant! Plus, it really pays to get multiple opinions, because many doctors can be wrong and of course their opinion if wrong could kill you. It is difficult to imagine what life was like before antiseptics and antibiotics. Great book, if you are not a hypochondriac.

This narrative of case studies in infectious diseases is fascinating. Her account of being in ID at the onset of AIDS was very interesting. I enjoy reading about other people's career experiences and found this one a page turner.

Not organized well

Maneater was disappointing to me. It is not an easy book to use. I wanted more of a book that allows me to look for symptoms of these maneating diseases, not a novel on what they are and who they have attacked. Perhaps I failed to realize what this book was before I ordered it but it is not a useful book to me and I was disappointed that a book with so much content was so poorly organized. I would have preferred a more detailed table of contents and a book less of personal stories and clever writing and more medically journal oriented.
I don't want to read about worms invading the human body for the fun of it, I choose to read about these horrible subjects to try to learn something. I would prefer that the book helps me learn or respond quickly to a problem rather than entertain me about worms. Just the facts ma'm. I would rather see a Maneaters for Dummies and less personal stories about individual patients.
There is not enough written about this subject in a style that is helpful to the layperson. I hope someone tackles this subject with a much more informative approach.
