About the Author
Imelda Delgado earned a master’s degree in piano performance (1960) at Indiana University while studying with Sidney Foster. In addition, she was awarded the coveted Performer’s Certificate for her master’s piano recital. In 1973, the Ford Foundation awarded her a two-year graduate grant to earn her doctorate (1975) at Indiana University, again with her mentor, Sidney Foster.
Her solo and chamber music performances have been in the United States, England, Mexico, Switzerland, and Italy. She has held teaching positions at Del Mar College and Corpus Christi State University (currently Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi), the University of Vermont in Burlington, Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and a one-semester guest artist teaching post at Baylor University in Waco, TX.
Currently, she performs as pianist with the Camerata del Sol Trio. Her recordings are in collaboration with flutist David Aguilar and oboist Evelyn McCarty.

Another devoted student

I was a devoted student of Sidney Foster for many years. Under his tutelege I was awarded a Performers' Certificate at Indiana University. Since that time I have never failed to acknowledge his tremendous influence and importance in my life. His thinking has inspired my teaching and affected every aspect of my long career as a teacher in numerous universities, as well as privately, and as a performer in my own right. It is wonderful to see that a book has finally been published that truly expresses what we all feel about our great teacher, Sidney Foster. His words still inspire me as the pianist in the White Oak Trio (since 2004).

Pianists, take note!

At last, a long overdue book devoted to one of the great piano teachers of the mid Twentieth Century. Sidney Foster was the first winner of the Leventritt Competition,a student of Isabella Vengerova and David Saperton, and a distinguished professor at Indiana University. The devotion he inspired not only by his superlative teaching but by his profound human warmth and dedication to his students and their careers made him a real standout among teachers of his generation. His ability to teach students about tone production and relaxed arm weight put him in a very small, rare circle of teachers. The man treated his students like family, and they have passed that tradition along to their own students. If anyone is looking for a "monster/tyrant" who runs pianists out of the business with their dismissive insults, they will be sorely disappointed in reading about this great teacher/mentor/human being. He was everything a great pianist and teacher should be, and his untimely death at the age of 59 robbed the world of a tremendously gifted man. But this wonderful book by Imelda Delgado, a Foster student whose devotion to her teacher led her to make this undertaking in his memory, gives us a wealth of background on man who changed many lives for the better and trained a generation of teachers who are still sharing his gifts with the world today. This book is a true "find" for any pianist and piano teacher.
